RETRO 2 LED Cap Lamp
Lighting for Cave and Mine Application
The
RETRO2 is a LED light which replaces the normal filament bulbs in a Oldham or
Speleo-Technic cap lamp. It is electronically controlled so that it will work
with any battery cell combination up to 6.0 Volts input. The RETRO 2 is a
unique LED light, which combines the proven ruggedness of the Oldham cap lamp
with the latest technology surpassing any off the shelf LED lighting system.
|
Using the latest LED, power supply and micro-controller technology,
this LED retro fit provides over 200 lumens of light output (a standard 3W
Oldham bulb provides 48 lumens). The beam has a 10° angle which gives an
excellent spread of light, illuminating a much wider area. The hue of the light
is much closer to day light, without the yellow tinge bulbs produce. It runs
from battery packs giving 1.3 to 6.0V DC output with reverse battery connection
protection so it will work with almost any cell combination and will provide
light output when normal bulbs will not even illuminate. Installation into a
cap lamp is straight forward and can be carried out in less than 10 minutes
using a small flat blade screw driver, full instructions are provided. No
soldering or permanent modifications are required.
It
uses 2 of the brightest LED's available - the Seoul P4 with a light output of
over 200 lumens. The expected lifetime of the unit is well over 20,000 hours,
so bulb changing becomes a thing of the past. There are 4 modes: 1/3Watt
(pilot), 1Watt (for normal activities), 1½Watt (bright) and 2Watt (very
bright). Mode changing is carried out by turning the cap switch on and off
quickly. Audio feedback is provided for mode changing, low battery and for over
heating if used in warm environments. If over heating occurs the RETRO 2
automatically drops its power level until the unit cools and then reverts back
to the original power setting. |

The
RETRO 2 provides full performance with 2, 3, 4, 5 cell NiCAD / NiMHD or 2, 3, 4
cell Alkaline and 2.4 - 6V Lead Acid battery packs. It will also work with
single cell NiCAD / NiMHD's / Alkaline batteries at reduced light
output.
